Since I already got my gift, we're probably just gonna hit a movie and a dinner. Which is fine by me. Normally we are off doing something overnight but we really didn't want to spend too much money right now. I'm okay with that too. I love my movies so I'll be happy with that!
So, the BIG question from my hubby this morning was?
"Are you excited that it's your birthday or are you sad cause you're getting old?"
My answer to that is......."Kiss my butt, babe!!! You're still older than me, so there!!"
That's what my husband said, anyway. lol {I sure love him!}
I had said that we were going to attempt the SF book signing for Tori Spelling but after much thought, {and the fact that my husband said if we didn't get pics at the SF one, he didn't want to go to the Sac one also.}
In his defense, I don't blame him. What guy wants to spend his birthday weekend waiting in line for an autograph he can less about getting?
So instead, we decided to just go to the Sacramento signing which was on my husband's birthday. What an awesome sport my hubby is! {Again, I sure love him!}
We got to Borders about 11:30am on Sunday. There was already a line too. I would say we were give or take the 100th one in line, plus or minus. Not bad considering there were 700 crazed fans there!
And because I wanted to stand out, I made a cute shirt for my baby girl who absolutely adores Tori's two kids, Liam & Stella. Also, because I noticed on Facebook, Tori was taking pictures of her fans that had fan shirts on. I know, sneaky me!
Anyways, so after we found out that she was running late, my daughter and I decided to go use the restroom before she got there. When we got to the restroom, there was a long line. Once it was our turn, my daughter and I took the big stall, together. There was only one other stall. My daughter went first and then it was my turn. While I was doing my business, we overheard one of the girls waiting in line say to her little girl "Say hi to Tori". I was thinking to myself "Huh?" At that point, my daughter peeks through the crack of the stall door and turns and looks at me all excited and whispers with excitement "Mommy, it's Tori!! It's Tori!! Hurry mommy, hurry!!!" So of course, I had to hurry. Once I opened the stall, there she was!! I'm all, "Well, hello there!" She said "hi" back. I was so excited! Apparently the girl that came out of the stall next to me was also excited cause she decided to tweet about it right at that moment.
When we came out of the restroom, there was a mob of people. It was just pure craziness however, I just couldn't get back to my husband fast enough, trying to fight through the crowd just so we could tell him we saw Tori in the bathroom.
Finally......
It was our turn! She signed my books and even signed my daughter's t-shirt. Tori was super nice and I have to say, this book signing was SO MUCH better than Jennifer Love Hewitt's. {Sorry JLH!!} Tori even took a picture of my baby girl with the shirt and posted it on her Twitter! See?!
See....look at my husband's smile. He was having a great birthday, don't you think?!
We even got a picture with her BFF/gay husband, Mehran and he signed my books also. He too was super nice and I felt like I was just talking with one of my friends.
Guess who I'm now following on Twitter?
So yeah, Tori's gonna be Tori'ng{hee hee} when her childrens book, Tallulah comes out Sept. 21st. I'm just gonna have to have her sign that for my daughter now, right? Of course!!
Mama Kat had some great prompts this week but when she had one about writing a poem about our furry friend, I had to do this one. Reason being, the day I saw the prompts was the same morning I had gotten up with my dog 3 times in the middle of the night to let him out. I just knew I had to include that it my poem too.
So, here goes.
Ode to Oz (Ozzy)
He's the hyper one Who greets me each and every day. The one that loves laying around Or just being in the way.
He's the hyper one That loves to play with his toys. Running and jumping Up and down for joy.
He's the hyper one While we're sleeping in bed. He'd rather be outside Going potty instead.
He's the hyper one Who has terrible breathe. It's so bad It smells like death.
He's the hyper one Who will stomp his feet. Whine and cry Until he gets his cookie treat.
He's the hyper one And even though he acts like the king. I love my little boy And I wouldn't change a thing.
~~~
Now head on over to Mama Kat's and see what others are writing about.
Have I jumped on this bandwagon.....AGAIN? If so, for how long this time?
Okay, sure....so I created an account some time awhile back ago but you were lucky to get an update out of me once a week. Heck, once a month for that matter.
I mean, honestly....what did I have to say that was so important to hear about every hour?
I still wonder that.
Then we went to Sacramento for Tori Spelling's book signing. {Which I'll post about that soon.}
While waiting in line, the lady in front of us was on her phone checking her Twitter and noticed that Tori was updating all her fellow "Tweeters" out there, to let them know she was running late.
"ALL my fans/friends at book signing N Sacramento at Borders-sry we will B late.Car/driver got pulled over.Cops makin him get out of car!O NO"
"Driver got stopped for no license plates on car. But cop is being really mean and I just tried to get out of car to see what's going on and cop said "ma'am get back in car now!"
"NO WAY!Aftr all tht cop comes ovr&says"I'm letting U guys go cause I hear U hve a signing U gotta get2. So can I get U'R autograph?" On way! "
"ABOUT 20 Minutes AWAY! Just about to enter Sacramento!"
Then she reassured us that we can take pics which is something I needed to be reassured. Especially since it was my husband's birthday and we were waiting in line for 4 hours for.
At that point, I wanted my very own phone with the Twitter app so that I could be "in the know". But I wasn't. I had to be updated through strangers. Whatever. It's not that important.
Or is it?
Cause here I am, 3 days later and can't seem to stay off Twitter. WHYYYY??
It's not like I'm reading everyone's tweets. I'm not. Just a handful.
I even changed my layout and picture. Like I felt like I needed to keep it updated and new.
Again....WHYYY?
It probably won't last. Just wondering what the heck my obsession is right now.
Ever had one of those moments when you shared something that you thought was funny,
that you had even shared it with a few friends that also thought it was funny,
so you thought it was funny enough to share with total strangers?
Yeah, me too!
But then when I did share it to these total strangers........
Yeah, I heard crickets.
Not only that, you should have seen the look on their faces! One word.....
PRICELESS!
So you ask.....what was it I shared?
Since a lady mentioned her birthday was on June 9th, I thought I would shared the fact that that was also mine and my husband's anniversary.......and then proceeded to share, well.......you know, June being "6" and the 9th being "9" meaning "69"!
Um....yeah...total "foot in the mouth" moment. But hey......I still think it's funny!!
If you've been here before, then you know that I like going to book signings. Not just any book signings either. We're talking celebrity book signings.
So anyways, today Tori Spelling is going to be in San Francisco and tomorrow in Sacramento. Now, since tomorrow is my hubby's birthday is tomorrow, we figured we would attempt the San Francisco book signing at 7pm. Only thing is, it's first come first serve. I can't get there until a couple hours before the event. Again, I'm using the word attempt here. Also, it says on the website "no pics". NO PICS??!! WTH?
Anyways, so if this one doesn't work out, then we'll be going to the one in Sacramento which starts at 2pm. Okay, that's do-able. We can drive out first thing in the morning and get in line before they open. My hubby even found a sports bar to hang out at when he gets bored waiting in line. We can be done and ready to go about 3pm.
Not sure what my hubby wants to do for his birthday though. He's so wishy washy and hasn't really said. I even tried to just go to the San Diego book signing on my birthday to avoid doing it on his but he wasn't having any of it. So, since he likes to go camping and next weekend is my birthday, I said we should go camping next weekend. I just hope all works out and everyone is a "happy camper"! No pun intended ;o)
~~~
Okay, now head on over to Cate's to see what everyone else is doing.
It's been a few weeks sense I've done one of these and as soon as I saw this week's prompt, I knew which one I wanted to do.
5.)Earthquake! Where were you when it happened?
So without further adu....
It was October 17, 1989. I was in the 10th grade. I was home sitting at the kitchen table doing my homework. My mom was probably making dinner, don't recall. I don't remember where my brother was but my dad was watching (and recording) the World Series...S.F. Giants vs. Oakland A's.
All of a sudden, while my dad is watching the game, it became static and you can hear a bit of chaos there at the game. Then.........we felt it....the Loma Prieta Earthquake! I immediately got up and stood between the kitchen and the living room. In the living room, the front window curtains were open and I literally saw the street moving like a wave. It was amazing! I couldn't believe what I was seeing. To actually see the street moving like that and not be affected by it after. No big cracks, holes or anything. Amazing!
Once the moving and shaking stopped, that's when we started to watch the news and realizing the damage the earthquake had created. It was 6.9 in magnitude and the epicenter was in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
Oakland, the Nimitz freeway and the Monterey Bay regions.
We lived (currently still do) approx. 45 minutes east of San Francisco, so we felt this earthquake very well, especially considering the wave it created with our street. Even as far as Sacramento felt it.
The chaos this earthquake caused and the deaths, especially from the Nimitz freeway collapsing, this is truly something I will never forget. It's still vivid to this day. Being from California though, I'm not afraid of earthquakes. Even after this one, I'm still not scared of them. I actually enjoy them. Probably cause I've never really been affected by one {knock on wood}. I do however, try and avoid being stuck in traffic under an overpass. I don't want a street collapsing on me.
After taking several pictures of my hand {cause I just didn't like the way my hands were looking in the pics}, I realized.....my hands are just down right boney looking. Yuk!
When I was a young girl, we didn't have any really cute stores to shop for clothes at. We were stuck with places like JC Penneys, Mervyns, Kmart and maybe a little local shop or two.
From Kindergarten to 2 grade, I went to a private school so I wore a uniform. Then I transferred to the public schools and dressed average. I would wear stuff like my unicorn t-shirts and pants.
Then in junior high I got all awkward and dorky. Yes, I am embarrassed to this day. In fact, we joke about it at home how I had 2 pairs of corduroys, one pink and the other yellow. Got the visual? Yes...it's as bad as it sounds. Trust me....I had "DORK" written all over me. Lame thing about is, my mom tried to get me to wear jeans but nooooooo, I had to have my yellow and pink corduroys. Lame!
I did have one advantage where I didn't get picked on too bad cause my brother who is a few years older than me, everyone knew him & liked him cause he was cool. I was "Bobby's little sister". So no one really bothered me as much as they could have.
Then in high school I started hanging out with all the stoners so I dressed the part. I just didn't play the part, per se. I was a "good girl". I became a little "cooler" I guess you can say. I dressed more current.
Now I have a daughter. My daughter, at the early age of 8 is totally and completely into fashion {unlike I was at her age, wearing my unicorns} , in fact, she hopes to become a fashion designer when she grows up.
Anyways, with a daughter, I get to shop at cuter places than we were able to when I was her age. So honestly, you think I'm gonna put my child in dorky clothes? Let her go through what I did, that was by my choice though, back then. I know...DORK! Moving on...
So my daughter and I love this super cute store.
They are a bit pricey but I only have one, "uno" child so I can spend the little extra it takes to clothe my child, umm...well....Cute, not Dorky! Sure, I don't go there all the time, my mom does! {Hey, she's an only grand child. Let my mom have her fun!} Anyways, I'll go to Target also. They've also got some cute clothes.
So anyways, this weekend we bought my daughter her "First Day of School" outfit.
$70 later. It definitely helps being an only child, that's for sure!
Where if you wanted to watch TV and wanted to change the channel, you had to get up off your tush and go to the TV and turn the knob?
Remember that?
We didn't have remotes. Not until the 80's anyways. No....we had to get up off the couch, walk over to the TV, bend down and do a little exercise called "turn the knob".
Growing up, we actually had one of these TV's. It was like a big piece of furniture and was used like a shelf or table to display pictures, knickknacks and the sort.
This past weekend I was talking with a friend on the phone about this and how kids have got it so made. Meanwhile, sharing this in front of my daughter who at the time was laying on the couch, remote in hand.
Kids these days have no idea how technology has made life for this generation so simple. I'm sure my parent's could say the same for my generation and my grandparent's could say the same for my parent's generation.
When I moved out of my parent's house, we started out with one of these
Decisions, Decisions......What To Do Today? We just went to the CA State Fair on Thursday and let me just tell you, IT WAS HOT! On the way to the fair, my husband kept taking pictures of the temp that shows in our car and the highest was 109 degrees (where we live, it was 104 degrees). That's to be expected with Sacramento but I wasn't expecting that cause I was in the house all morning.
So with that in mind, I asked my husband what he wanted to do this weekend and everything that consisted of being outside, he didn't want to do cause of the heat. So I thought of somewhere cooler, like Monterey. So, I guess we'll see. Still not sure though.
The last year or so I've been listening to the Christian radio station, KLOVE.
Before listening to it, I just couldn't bring myself to listening to Christian music. I guess I thought it wasn't "cool" enough sounding. Who knows. I guess I just expected it to song like it does in church. You know, from the hymns.
Well.....I was completely wrong. Wrong with a capital "W"!!!
The music they play is really awesome!! If you have never heard it before, there are so many different genres that I had no idea they had. They have Rock, Country, Alternative, and so on.
One of my favorite groups is Newsboys. I noticed that they were playing at a local counties fair so I made every attempt to go.
And I did.....
And they were awesome...
As always....
I'm so glad we were able to share this moment.....
Together as a family.
Knowing my husband loves this music also, really warms my heart more than you could ever imagine!!!
